Dry Eye Syndrome

Our eyes are protected by a film of tears that moisturises them and ensures their comfort. But when this film is missing, various unpleasant symptoms can appear and cause irritation. What are the causes? How can we prevent them?

Dry eye is a disease that consists of a deficit in the quantity of tears and/or a deterioration in the quality of tears, producing inflammation of the surface of the eye, making the eyes painful and inflamed. It is also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, the dry eye syndrome medical term. It is usually bilateral and is more common in women than in men, especially during and after the menopause.

Can dry eye syndrome be fixed?

Yes, there is good dry eye syndrome treatment, but it depends of the types of dry eye. Naturally, good eye hygiene is essential, artificial tears are recommended, and anti-inflammatory and antibiotic eye drops are recommended if the dryness has resulted in an infection. But to relieve the patient, the glands must also be unblocked. This can be done by massaging the eyelids, rubbing them with small lateral movements, with the eyes facing upwards to act on the lower eyelids, and downwards for the upper eyelids. You can also try the latest treatment for dry eye syndrome with new devices and technologies but the safest way is to use home remedies.

What is the main cause of dry eyes?

Whether it’s a burning sensation in the eye after a long day of staring at a computer screen or eye sensitivity after a sunny afternoon of cycling, these dry eye symptoms are uncomfortable and often annoying.

In general, there are three main reasons why you may be experiencing dry eye syndrome. Here are some dry eye causes:

  • Your eyes may not produce enough tears: The simplest explanation is that your body simply does not produce enough normal tears to keep your eyes hydrated. This condition, called aqueous deficiency dry eye, occurs when the lacrimal glands do not produce enough tears to keep the surface of the eyes moist or healthy. This could be due to age, certain medications, a medical condition or even the use of screens.
  • Tears may evaporate from your eyes too quickly: Tears may evaporate too quickly because of their quality or the environment (for example, a heated or air-conditioned place). It may also be due to lacrimal glands not functioning properly, producing tears that do not contain enough of the water component.
  • The balance of your tears may be altered: Tears are made up of a complex mixture of ingredients that keep the eyes hydrated, lubricated and clean. If the balance of these ingredients is altered, the tears do not work as they should and you may experience dry eyes. This can happen if you have a blocked gland or if you have certain skin conditions such as rosacea.

What is the most dominant symptoms in dry eye syndrome?

Dry eye syndrome symptoms can be different from person to person. You may experience different symptoms at different times, but in general you may experience the following symptoms:

  • Burning or stinging eyes
  • Redness of the eyes
  • Feeling of grit in the eyes or itching of the eyes; you may feel as if something is in your eye
  • Eye fatigue or blurred vision
  • Tingling of the eyes
  • Teary or sticky eyes
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Difficulty driving in the evening
  • Discomfort when wearing contact lenses
  • It can cause blindness in worst cases

What can you do for dry eye syndrome?

Symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome involves moistening the eye by instilling artificial tears in the form of eye drops. Lubricating your eyes and wetting gels can also be applied several times a day depending on the degree of discomfort.

  • Eye drops: When choosing eye drops, it is important to ensure that they do not contain any preservatives or excipients. Anti-inflammatory and antibiotic eye drops can also be prescribed in case of infection or anti-allergy in case of allergy.
  • Eyelid massage: Massage the eyelids and the inner corner of the eye: gently make small circular movements, with the eyes facing upwards, to act on the lower eyelids, then downwards for the upper eyelids. Then place a heated flannel on both eyes for 5 to 10 minutes, once or twice a day.
  • Exercises: Several exercises can be used to relax and reduce the discomfort felt by, for example, placing one’s hands for a few minutes on the previously closed eyes. Another exercise consists of yawning several times in a row in order to tense and then relax the muscles surrounding the eyes, allowing for a better distribution of tears over the eyes.
  • Take vitamins, minerales and omegas.

because of the pandemic I started working from home, this means that one uses more electronic devices. This caused a lot of damage to my eyesight, my eyes burn very often and now I even have a little blurred vision. I have to strain my eyes for a long time and that is not good at all. I found this site with very good natural remedies, I was delighted. So I started taking Zinc. As it is natural I can only hope to improve if I am constant. I have been taking it for 2 weeks now. After a month I hope to be able to leave another good comment.

I am a vegetarian and I know that I need to incorporate into my daily routine essential supplements like Vitamin B Complex that may be missing from my diet. I take 1 capsule daily. I have been able to tolerate this supplement well without any adverse side effects. I will continue to use it. I have already noticed a physical improvement especially with my eyesight, the itching is diminishing. But incredibly it also helps with my memory, my mood and my energy level.

You have to see to believe, well in this case yes. I bought this because I have a chalazion, year which is like a stye but worse because I have had it since I was very young, anyway I was told to wait until it got to the point where it affected me or hurt and got bigger, which it did a little, but it also started to affect my vision in my left eye, and driving at night was really bad. Well, I started taking Lutein and have seen a big difference in my vision, my left eye is no longer blurry, it just gets bad or blurry in the evening hours (like now, for example, but I am carrying on my progress with it now as I am tyoing,) so if you want something that works, give these guys a try. I also bought the same product for my dear sweet mom, and she is seeing results with her eyes too! Mine is 20 mg and hers is 40 mg. you have to love your mom, she gave you life! good luck to all.

+ PROS: So far so seeing the difference!

I have vision problems and this causes terrible migraine headaches (several days a week). I read several research studies that recommend taking 400mg of B-2 a day to decrease the frequency of migraines. After three months of taking this supplement, I am pleased to say that it really works. I went from taking my rescue medication from twice a week to twice a month. It is an incredible difference and an increase in quality of life. My headaches are less and not as significant. If you suffer from migraines, this is a safe supplement to try and could improve your quality of life as well.

Zinc is a vitamin that helps the immune system. I don’t really like the taste, but it is very good for the body, even for eyesight, especially if you have very tired eyes. Get it. It is very good quality.

I have chronic dry eyes, which makes it very difficult to wear contact lenses. After a day of wearing contact lenses, I had to take a 2-3 day break because my eyes were so red and dry. I did some research and read about Omega-3 and was encouraged to try it. I’ve only been taking it for a week and I haven’t had any problems with redness or dry eyes after wearing contacts. The taste is super light and it’s really easy to take. For me it’s fantastic!
