What can you do for dry eye syndrome?

Symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome involves moistening the eye by instilling artificial tears in the form of eye drops. It exists natural eye drops for dry eyes. Lubricating your eyes and wetting gels can also be applied several times a day depending on the degree of discomfort.

  • Eye drops: When choosing eye drops, it is important to ensure that they do not contain any preservatives or excipients. Anti-inflammatory and antibiotic eye drops can also be prescribed in case of infection or anti-allergy in case of allergy.
  • Eyelid massage: Massage the eyelids and the inner corner of the eye: gently make small circular movements, with the eyes facing upwards, to act on the lower eyelids, then downwards for the upper eyelids. Then place a heated flannel on both eyes for 5 to 10 minutes, once or twice a day.
  • Exercises: Several exercises can be used to relax and reduce the discomfort felt by, for example, placing one’s hands for a few minutes on the previously closed eyes. Another exercise consists of yawning several times in a row in order to tense and then relax the muscles surrounding the eyes, allowing for a better distribution of tears over the eyes.
