Stomach cramps cause the muscles around the stomach to contract. These pains are very sharp and can have various origins. They occur in the so-called epigastric region and are often related to eating. They can come back frequently if you are used to eating spicy or acidic food. Other causes can be looked for such as a gastric ulcer (rarer) or a transient gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining). It is also a symptom of gastroenteritis.
